Variations on a Theme

Variations on a Theme by Pachelbel
Johann Pachelbel's Canon and Gigue in D is one of the most instantly recognisable pieces of music ever written. We don't know its date but the best guess is the 1690s. After centuries of obscurity it was popularised in a 1968 recording by Jean-François Paillard who added his own substantial variations to the original. It has been borrowed and copied in numerous pop songs, notably All Together Now by The Farm (one of my favourite singles). Working from Paillard's recording, which is the one I know and love, I have upcycled the Canon for the 21st century using modern technology. It is very similar to Paillard's version though I have added some variations of my own.
